Land Acknowledgement

Northern Explorers respectfully acknowledge that the lands and waters we explore, write about, photograph and share stories from are the traditional territories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island—lands that have been cared for since time immemorial.

As travellers, adventurers, and storytellers, we recognize that every trail, shoreline, mountain, and forest exists within territories that have been, and continue to be, home to diverse Indigenous Nations. Treaties cover some of these lands; agreements between Nations meant to guide our shared responsibilities. Others remain unceded, with ongoing calls for justice, land rights, and recognition.

We honour the deep cultural, spiritual, and ecological connections that Indigenous people and communities maintain with these territories. Indigenous Peoples are stewards of the land and innovators, guides, knowledge keepers, and leaders in tourism, conservation, and outdoor experiences. Their contributions continue to shape the places we explore and the ways we experience them.

We offer our sincere gratitude to Indigenous Peoples for their continued care for the land and for the opportunity to experience the beauty and significance of these spaces.

As a platform dedicated to ethical travel, community, sustainability, and storytelling, Northern Explorers commits to the ongoing work of reconciliation. We are committed to listening, learning, unlearning, and amplifying Indigenous voices and perspectives. We pledge to educate ourselves and our audience and promote respectful, inclusive, and responsible travel that honours Indigenous rights, cultures, and stories.

This is just one step on a lifelong journey of learning and accountability. We encourage all our readers to reflect on whose land they travel on, to seek out Indigenous-led tourism experiences, and to walk gently with respect across these sacred places.
